| MISANO: STRONG RECOVERY AND FIRST POINTS FOR ALBERTO CERQUI IN THE SEASON OPENER OF THE ITALIAN FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP | |
| 25/04/2010 - Sunny and rainy weekend for Alberto Cerqui at Misano in the season opener of the Italian Formula 3 Championship.
The heavy precipitations fallen on the Misano track on Friday and Saturday unavoidably conditioned qualifying, a crucial session in a championship with thirty drivers entered and an elevated level of competition. The wet tarmac made the debut difficult for several rookies and to Cerqui it was not possible to go beyond the twenty-second place in qualifying (1'58.217) and the twenty-eighth in race one. On Sunday, the dry circuit welcomed again the determination that took the driver from Brescia to the Formula Azzurra title last year: despite a technical problem at the start that cost Cerqui some positions, he managed later on to recover firmly lap after lap and to finish the race sixteenth, a result that awarded him with the first points in the rookies classification. Alberto Cerqui "Qualifying did not go in the way we expected with the rain and in a championship as difficult as this one it is crucial to start from the front to aim at important positions. In race one conditions were nearly the same of qualifying and it was impossible to finish within the first ten. Things changed in race two: despite the episode at the start, I had the right feeling with the car and this allowed me to make a good recovery while lapping on interesting times. It has been a particular and not very favourable weekend for me, but performances on the dry make me satisfied and hopeful for Hockenheim". The Italian Formula 3 Championship will be back on track next 13 June at Hockenheim, Germany. | |
