HOCKENHEIM: FIRST FORMULA 3 POINTS FOR ALBERTO CERQUI

13/06/2010 - First points of the season for Alberto Cerqui at Hockenheim, theater of the second round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship. The young Italian driver of Ombra Racing concluded qualifying with the thirteenth time (1'54.432), the session started on heavy rain diminished as time went by. In the final stages, the tarmac was getting drier in some parts and the classification was in rapid evolution. Cerqui recovered up to the fourth place before being overtaken by some drivers who, managed to exploit in the very last lap, better grip conditions.

The winner of the last Formula Azzurra title conserved his startign position after a series of overtaking like the one on the Mygale of Mattews Lee and some overtaking he was subjected to.
More eventful was race two: Cerqui has been skilled in avoiding the bagarre originated at lap one and then pushed lap by lap until finishing ninth under the chequered flag, a result that awarded him with the first two points in Formula 3.

Among the rookies, the driver from Brescia, thanks to two third places of the category at Hockenheim, is now fourth in classification at 25 points, 34 adrift the leader Kevin Giovesi (JD Motorsport).

Alberto Cerqui:
"We made an important leap forward from Misano: qualifying, on a track that was getting drier, were a bit of a guessing game and in normal conditions it would have been possible to be within the first three rows.
Qualifying turned out to be crucial in this occasion too: with so many drivers on track it is easy to find small groups in which one has to attack and defend at the same time and this is a situation that makes it difficult to improve the starting position, as happened for me in race one. In race two I had a bit more of space to push and I managed to collect my first points in the absolute classification, with which I hope to start a long positive series".

The Italian Formula 3 Championship will be back on track at Imola next 4 July.
