| RAIN COMPLICATES ALBERTO CERQUI'S WEEKEND IN PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPERCUP 2018 AT HOCKENHEIMRING | |
| 23.07.2018 - Alberto Cerqui ended the weekend of the fifth round of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 at Hockenheimring (GER) with a result below expectations.
The Italian driver on the n.12 Porsche 911 GT3 run by Dinamic Motorsport, headed Germany to keep the momentum of positive results that characterized his early part of the season in the exciting single make trophy. In free practice Cerqui tried to bring the Porsche 911 GT3 close to the limit in this short and technical circuit, shaving off the kerbs and finding the correct braking points. The good feeling built on Friday was initially confirmed on Saturday during qualifying, initially held on rainy conditions. Despite this being his first experience on the wet on the German car, Cerqui showed his driving skills posting a 1'51.154s that was second overall when only eight minutes were left to run. The track started then to dry up and several drivers changed their tyres improving the lap times, while the Dinamic Motorsport's driver could not complete a clean lap on the dry, having to settle for P23. Started from the 12th row of the grid, Cerqui tried to make up for the lost ground in the race though. Grit and great driving on the dry allowed the Italian to climb up to P18 winning several exciting battles. A too harsh contact cost Cerqui 3s time penalty at the end of the race and he was pushed down to P20. Alberto Cerqui: "This has not been the weekend I imagined. I felt competitive since the beginning and I knew I could have shown all my potential on this circuit also on the wet because the car gave me a good feeling and we had the pace to be among the protagonists. The sudden weather change and the hectic pit-stop stage penalized me in qualifying and starting behind is quite a big handicap in this championship. I pushed hard in the race and posted lap times worth the top 10, and I am disappointed on falling so much behind knowing what I could have obtained. On Thursday we will set off to Hungary, therefore, I will quickly put this weekend behind me and try to bounce back soon". Alberto Cerqui will get back behind the wheel next weekend (July 27th - 29th) for the sixth round of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 at Hungaroring (H) in Budapest.
