27.08.2018 - A fourth place among the rookies at the end of an attack race is the haul of Alberto Cerqui in the weekend just ended on the iconic Spa-Francorchamps (B) circuit that staged the third-last round of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018, the support event to the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Italian driver got to the Belgian track motivated to improve his feeling with the n.12 Porsche 911 GT3 run by team Dinamic Motorsport in his first complete year in one of the most exciting single-make championships in the world. The features of the Belgian circuit and the hard-fought battle that started in free practice highlighted once again the very high level of competition, and Cerqui worked hard to adapt the Porsche 911 GT3 to his driving style on the racetrack that is regarded as the motorsport university.

Cerqui got some confidence with the circuit on which he had not been running since 2015 in free practice held on Friday. The intense setup work he completed allowed the Italian driver to improve his best time by nearly 3s in qualifying, where he posted a 2'23.528s that earned him the seventeenth place on the grid in a very tight session.

Despite starting well down the field, Cerqui put in his grit aiming to climb up and play his cards among the rookies. The Italian completed some spectacular overtaking moves and recovered four places in the eleven laps long race, without holding anything back and ending his effort in fourth place among the rookies, not far from the podium, in thirteenth place overall.

Alberto Cerqui:
"I was once again close to the podium at the end of a breathless race even if the weekend has not been that easy. I worked a lot on the setup and on fine-tuning the car during the whole round, but I experienced a bit of understeering perhaps due to the features of this circuit, which did not allow me to complete the attack to the podium in the closing stages. Sometimes it has been difficult to interpret the driving feelings, but the car has a lot of potential that I hope to exploit since my home race in Monza".

After the Dinamic Motorsport test in Vallelunga on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Alberto Cerqui will be back on track next August 31st - September 2nd for the penultimate round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 season at the Autodromo Nazionale in Monza.
