THE WEEKEND OF VALLELUNGA ENDING AFTER QUALIFYING FOR A FLAWLESS CERQUI

25/09/2017 - The weekend just ended at the circuit Piero Taruffi of Vallelunga - penultimate round of the Italian GT 2017 Championship, disappointed Alberto Cerqui's expectations.

The Italian driver of BMW Team Italia could not partake in the two scheduled races due to an incident his co-equiper Stefano Comandini had in the second qualifying session, which forced the team to retire the n.15 BMW M6 GT3 from the races.

The weekend had started in a good way for Alberto Cerqui, who managed to convert the positive sensations of the eve into good lap times. Cerqui's resolution to run a strong weekend continued in the first qualifying session, when a 1'30.725s deservedly placed the Italian driver on the third spot of the grid, just a few thousands of a second shy of the first row.

Unfortunately, in the opening stages of the second session, Comandini was trying to improve his lap time and had an excursion at the Semaforo corner, hitting the tyre barriers. The damage sustained by the BMW M6 GT3 was not fixable on track, therefore the pairing had to retire from the event.

Alberto Cerqui:
"I am really disappointed on having to skip this round. The third place in Q1 would have certainly allowed us to be among the pacesetters of race one, as the feeling with the car was great and I was very motivated. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan, we will now focus on the closing round in Mugello to try and end the season on a high".

Cerqui's season will end with the closer of the Italian GT Championship 2017 to be held in Mugello next October 6-8.
