ALBERTO CERQUI GETS THE PODIUM IN MISANO AT THE ITALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP

05/06/2017 - A great second place ended the weekend at the Misano World Circuit for Alberto Cerqui, in occasion of the second round of the Italian GT Championship.

The BMW Team Italia's works driver and co-equiper Stefano Comandini managed to put on track all their experience and motivation since free practice and awarded the BMW M6 GT3 with the first podium of the season on a technical and difficult track like Misano.

Cerqui drove the car in Q2 and displayed all his skills. Thanks to a precise and effective driving that highlighted the quality of the BMW M6 GT3, he posted a quickest time of 1'33.089s, which was the fifth fastest of the session and earned him a third row start.

Comandini took the wheel for the first stint and got away from the seventh spot of the grid after his performance in Q1. After a good stint he handed the car over to Cerqui, who started a spectacular comeback keeping a very high rhythm. The driver from Brescia crossed the finish line with a deserved absolute second place, that was also the first of Pro Am.

Cerqui started race two without errors and kept his third place without losing contact with the cars ahead of him. During his stint he recovered several positions overcutting the rivals and installing himself in P3. Comandini rejoined in fifth place due to the time handicap he had to serve and kept this position until the chequered flag, resulting again the winner of Pro Am.

Alberto Cerqui:
"Getting on the podium has been a great feeling that rewarded the work done during the weekend. I had a good feeling with the car especially on the race pace, but we still miss something to aim to the victory. We are already focused on the home round of Monza that I care a lot about. We will have the advantage of not having to serve any time handicap and a lot of fans will be pushing us too".

Alberto Cerqui will get back on track in two weeks time at the Autodrome of Monza from June 16th to 18th.
