ALBERTO CERQUI ON THE PODIUM IN IMOLA AT THE ITALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP |
|
11/09/2017 - An important third place has ended the weekend for Alberto Cerqui at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit of Imola in the fifth round of the Italian GT Championship 2017.
BMW Team Italia's driver displayed a great motivation and grit taking a very good result, getting the most of the potential of his BMW M6 GT3 on the dry and wet circuit.
Cerqui has highlighted his desire to run a strong weekend putting in solid performances since Friday's free practice, posting very good lap times thanks to the great feeling he had with the car. Positive sensations were confirmed in Qualifying when Cerqui was third in Q1 with his fastest lap completed in 1'41.808s.
Race one was run on dry tarmac and BMW Team Italia's driver put in a series of very quick laps that allowed him to fight for the podium. Cerqui's race conduct has been perfect and co-equiper Stefano Comandini kept his position strong of the lead built by the driver from Brescia, crossing the finish line with an important third place.
Race two has been trickier on Sunday on the wet track. Comandini, fifth in Q2, started the race from the third place of the grid. A technical problem during lap three forced the BMW M6 GT3 to a long stop in the pits and Cerqui rejoined two laps down. Despite this gap, the driver from Brescia displayed all his speed on track, posting the fastest lap of the race in 1'53.198s in the closing lap and ending fifteenth absolute and third of category Pro Am.
Alberto Cerqui:
"The end result is positive. Last April, at the first outing here in Imola, we struggled to show our potential, but this weekend the car gave me a lot of confidence on the wet and the fastest lap of race two shows exactly this. I am happy for the podium in race one, in the past five months we worked in the right direction as the BMW M6 GT3 was perfectly at ease on the up-down hills of the track. This is a great sign ahead of the next round".
Alberto Cerqui will get back on track next September 22-24 for the penultimate round of the Italian GT 2017 Championship in Vallelunga. |
