ALBERTO CERQUI AMAZING IN MUGELLO: POLE POSITION AND VICTORY

16/07/2017 - A stunning Alberto Cerqui has been the protagonist of the weekend of Mugello, fourth round of the Italian GT Championship 2017.

BMW Team Italia's driver has set the pace since the first qualifying session when he managed to get the most of his tyres in the only chance to get a fast lap posting a 1'47.196s that earned him the pole position.

The heat of the start of race one did not favour Cerqui, who had to concede a few positions to avoid dangerous contacts. Fifth at the end of lap one, the driver from Brescia has put in a furious comeback taking him to get the lead in a few laps, position that he, later on, kept all the way to the end of his stint. Co-equiper Stefano Comandini kept the lead all the way to the flag, securing the first victory to the pairing.

Race two has been less lucky due to an early contact that ended up with a puncture for Comandini. The unavoidable pit stop forced Cerqui to put in a strong recovery in the second stint, ending ninth absolute, that was second of Pro-Am.

Alberto Cerqui:
"It has been a great weekend for us: we started off with the pole position and won race one. In the second race after the contact of Stefano I managed to get some ground back and the ninth place, from P30, has been a solid deed. I really pushed hard and I was the quickest driver on track in several stages. The car was perfect today and most probably we could get another very good performance. Now I will enjoy this win for a few weeks, before facing the closing part of the season with good motivation".

The Italian GT Championship will resume next September 10th in Imola.
