POLE AND PODIUM FOR ALBERTO CERQUI IN DONINGTON |
|
20/06/2011 - Alberto Cerqui had another positive weekend at Donington Park (United Kingdom) that housed last weekend the fifth round of the Superstars Series 2011.
The young driver of BMW Team Italy, at his debut on the difficult British track, produced a remarkable performance in Saturday's qualifying when he secured his second pole position of the season with a fastest time of 1'33.905.
Race one was decided for the young driver from Brescia at the start where he could not do anything against the power of the Maserati driven by Andrea Bertolini and the Mercedes of Luigi Ferrara. Cerqui defended afterwards the third position until the last lap obtaining another podium in his debut season at the wheel of a touring racing car.
Race two's result was partially conditioned by the bagarre when Cerqui was fighting for the fourth place until a few laps to the end. The heated final stages turned out to be not so favorable to BMW Team Italy's driver that due to some contacts finished the race in seventh place.
Alberto Cerqui:
"Donington was one of the circuits completely new to me and setting the pole position is certainly cause of great pride. Race one's start has been crucial but I am very satisfied anyway for this podium and for being the BMW driver harvesting the highest number of points which allows me to stay in touch with the top positions".
The Superstars Series will be back on track next 10 July in Misano Adriatico in a round valid again for the International series. |
