ALBERTO CERQUI ON MISANO'S PODIUM TOO

06/06/2011 - Alberto Cerqui's positive rookie season in the Superstars Series continues ceaselessly.

The driver of BMW Team Italy set the fastest time (1'42.315) in the second free practice session held last Friday confirming himself among the absolute protagonists of the series organized by Roma Formula Futuro.

In qualifying, Cerqui set the sixth fastest lap (1'42.739) after getting close to the pole in the last attempt, where he has been the fastest in sector one and two but not in sector three. Spectacular was his start in race one, that saw him gaining three positions; the race did not live afterwards any particular twist with the Italian talent author of a clever race that brought him the third place of the podium.

Less luck in race two instead, started under safety car regime due to the heavy rain. Cerqui fought for the sixth place until when just two laps were left as a rival bumped him and forced him to an early retirement.

Alberto Cerqui:
"This has been once again a positive weekend thanks to the excellent work done together with BMW Team Italy engineers. I am very happy for this podium, the third in four races, and for getting a bit more of experience in this car on the wet. In two weeks time I will be in Donington and I will have just 10kg sportive ballast, certainly a better situation than the 50kg I had in Misano's race two".

In the Italian Championship, Alberto Cerqui is currently fifth with 28 points and with a 29 points gap from Max Pigoli (Mercedes). The Superstars Series will be back on track next 19 June in Donington Park (United Kingdom) in a round valid for the International Series only.
