ALBERTO CERQUI BMW TEAM ITALY'S OFFICIAL DRIVER IN THE SUPERSTARS SERIES 2011

24/01/2011 - BMW Team Italy defined the drivers that will take part in the Superstars Series 2011 at the wheel of the three official BMW M3. The team led by Roberto Ravaglia and Umberto Grano, two of the most successful drivers of touring cars racing, following a new policy towards emerging talents, decided to bet on the eighteen-years-old Alberto Cerqui that becomes the youngest driver in the history of the team. The young Italian will be on track with the number three car and will line up aside of the reigning champion Thomas Biagi and Stefano Gabellini.

Cerqui, 18 years, is considered as one of the most promising young Italian drivers. He raced in karting at International levels and won the Italian Formula Azzurra Championship in 2009 , before moving to the Italian Formula 3 in 2010.

Alberto Cerqui:
"Racing with an official team is the ambition of every driver and getting there at eighteen years of age is something incredible. It won't be easy for me, especially at the beginning: coming from single seaters, I never raced on a touring car before and therefore I will unavoidably need to adapt my racing style as well as to learn some tracks that are going to be new for me. I will have anyway the luck of being able to count on the experience of Roberto Ravaglia and Umberto Grano from whom I could certainly learn a lot and I will do the same with two top class drivers as Biagi and Gabellini".

Roberto Ravaglia (BMW Team Italy, Team Principal):
"We decided to line up three cars instead of the four of last year to optimize the resources and the technical solutions. The confirmation of Biagi and Gabellini allows us to guarantee a consistent stability within the team, while the insertion of a young talent like Cerqui, who will have the chance to grow up gradually with the team, is an important novelty both for us and for the championship".
