PODIUM AND COMPETITIVENESS REGAINED IN SHANGHAI

04/11/2012 - Alberto Cerqui heads back home from China after a positive performance at the circuit of Shanghai, stage of the penultimate round of the FIA WTCC 2012.

The young driver from Brescia, nineteenth in qualifying, produced an exciting recover in race one that allowed him to finish seventh absolute at the end of a tight battle with Colin Turkington (Chevorlet) and Freddy Barth (Seat). This result was also worth the second place in the Yokohama Drivers' Trophy.

Solid performance also in race two, where thanks to an attack tactics Cerqui recovered up to the final ninth place, fourth of the independents and therefore harvesting again some points for the absolute classification.

Alberto Cerqui:
"I am happy on being competitive again on the race pace. In qualifying we are probably still missing something but I managed to recover anyway thanks to quite a bit of overtaking, I was lapping constantly on the lap-times of the top six-seven and I am satisfied on getting some more points for the absolute classification in both races".

The FIA WTCC will resume next 18 November on the street circuit of Macau.
