POLE AND DOUBLE VICTORY AT MUGELLO FOR A STUNNING ALBERTO CERQUI

25/09/2011 - Weekend as a ruler for Alberto Cerqui at Mugello in the penultimate round of the Superstars Series, valid both for the Italian championship and the International series.

The young driver from Brescia of BMW Team Italy has been virtually perfect since qualifying when he set a strong pole position with the laptime of 1'54.211.
In race one Cerqui did not leave any space to rivals keeping his leadership from lights to flag after a mint start. He did not have any problems either when the race restarted after the safety car, condition managed perfectly. The bold performance was completed by the fastest lap of the race that awarded him with a further point crucial for the classification.

Thrilling and solid was also Cerqui's race two: penalyzed by 30kg of ballast by rule as consequence of the win obtained in the morning, Cerqui defended himself and keeping his car in third for the first part of the race. Afterwards, a contact between the two drivers at the lead made him inherit the lead of the race that he managed to keep until the finish line.

Thanks to these results, with 43 points still to be awarded, Cerqui is now leading the championship at 108 points, 6 clear of Luigi Ferrara (Mercedes). In the International Series the young driver from Brescia is currently second instead at 145 points and he reduced his gap to the lead to 11 points.

Alberto Cerqui:
"I cannot describe my happiness: everything fell into place since qualifying and thanks also the great work done by the whole team we obtained two victories that re-launch my classification.
In race two my M3 BMW was more difficult to drive due to the 30kg additional weight but thanks also to a bit of good luck I managed to get the second win of the day.
We will now have the final round of Vallelunga, one of my favourite tracks where the 60kg additional weight will unavoidably have an impact. Anyway, I am sure we will play at best our cards in the final fight for the two titles".

The Superstars Series will be back on track next 9 October at Vallelunga.
