ALBERTO CERQUI ENDS THE EXCITING WEEKEND OF MONACO IN THE POINTS IN PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPERCUP 2018

28.05.2018 - A position into the points ended Alberto Cerqui's maiden experience on the narrow streets of the circuit of Monaco, that has been the spectacular stage of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 as support event to the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Italian driver on the n.12 Porsche 911 GT3 run by Dinamic Motorsport did not slip in the pitfalls pf the most tricky circuit in the world, the legendary 3.337 meters in which all drivers dream to race at least once in their career.

Cerqui has studied the details of the Monegasque circuit since Thursday's free practice. This circuit requires very precise driving to shave the guard rails and properly hit the curbs that delimit in particular the second part of the circuit after the famous tunnel.

The confidence of the Dinamic Motorsport driver with his car improved in qualifying and Cerqui posted a 1'36.137s, that was more than one second faster than the best performance put in during free practice, which earned him the fifteenth place on the starting grid. The Italian driver could have improved his position in the closing stages, but the safety car and red flagging of the session did not allow him to complete his performance.

As usual in Monaco, the race has been decided at turn one. Cerqui had a great start and managed to get one place back, but the group was packed at the Sainte Devote corner, which shuffled the cards and gave an advantage to drivers starting on the outside lane. The Italian driver managed to avoid contacts that could have affected his debut in the Principality and, thanks to a constant race pace, he closed fifteenth securing some points.

Alberto Cerqui:
"Racing in Monaco is something magic, exciting and indescribable. The weekend has been positive, obviously here it is difficult to overtake and the starting position influenced a lot the end result, therefore I am quite sorry for not completing my best lap in qualifying, which could have allowed me to start three or four positions ahead. The battle of the first corner did not advantage me, and in the closing stages I struggled a bit to find the right rhythm on the curbs that require very high precision, not too much aggressiveness nor too much caution. I am happy for ending on the points and without incidents a weekend that I can definitely put among the unforgettable of my career".

Alberto Cerqui will get back on track in the next few days for a test at the Hockenheim (GER) circuit in preparation to the third round of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 schduled at the Red Bull Ring (A) next June 29th - July 1st.
