DOUBLE WIN IN PRO AM FOR ALBERTO CERQUI IN IMOLA AT THE ITALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

01/05/2017 - The opener of the Italian GT Championship 2017, race held at the Autodrome Enzo e Dino Ferrari of Imola this weekend, awarded Alberto Cerqui with the first two wins in category Pro Am.
The Italian driver lived an intense weekend behind the wheel of the works BMW M6 GT3. In the first free practice session his co-equiper Stefano Comandini had an incident which seemed to trouble the opener of the championship, but the huge work completed by BMW Team Italia fixed the car in time for the two qualifying sessions. Cerqui took the wheel for Q2 and posted the eighth quickest time in 1'41.675, thanks to his usual determination, despite the lost time on Friday did not allow to optimize the setup.
Comandini started the race from the fourth row of the grid and after his stint he handed the BMW M6 GT3 to Cerqui who rejoined in tenth place. Thanks to a very effective and constant driving, the Italian put in a series of very quick times and recovered several positions up to the absolute P6 that earned him the first win in category Pro Am.
Race two was held on Sunday with Cerqui running the first stint. He defended himself very well in the initial laps in the mid pack but did not take unnecessary risks that could have compromised his end result. Thanks to a wise race he could optimize the potential of the car together with co-equiper Comandini, who closed sixth again claiming the second win of the weekend in category Pro Am.

Alberto Cerqui:
"I am happy on the result of this first race of the season that we closed very positively. I tried to be as effective as possible in both races, and we managed to score important points for the championship with two great wins in Pro Am. I have to thank the team with my whole heart as they managed to rebuild the BMW M6 GT3 in time for qualifying. Credit for this double podium goes also to them. The car was very well balanced and in race two we could have pushed even more, but I chose not to risk any incident. I am already focused on the next round, we scheduled a test in Misano to prepare the next race and be a protagonist of the absolute classification".

Alberto Cerqui will get back on track next 2 - 4 June for the second round of the Italian GT Championship at the Misano World Circuit.
